BHSO 40th Anniversary Gala Concert

Celebrate a landmark year with the Braddell Heights Symphony Orchestra as it marks its 40th Anniversary with a gala concert honouring four decades of music-making as one of Singapore’s oldest symphony orchestras.

The programme reaffirms the orchestra’s commitment to Singapore music, opening with Seem Jia Ang’s “The Journey Ahead” and Tan Chan Boon’s Symphonic Poem “In Memory of Franz Schubert,” Op. 29. The evening also features Chen Yi’s Percussion Concerto, performed by Cheong Kah Yiong.

The celebration culminates in Camille Saint-Saëns’ Symphony No. 3 in C Minor, “Organ Symphony,” featuring organ soloist Loraine Muthiah. Marking the 140th anniversary of this monumental masterpiece, its majestic sonorities and triumphant finale provide a fitting conclusion to this special occasion.

Esplande Presents Beautiful Sunday: Timeless Orchestral Favourites

Join BHSO for an afternoon of timeless orchestral favourites! 

The concert opens with Jacques Offenbach’s Overture to Orpheus in the Underworld, featuring the well-known and exuberant Can-Can. The programme continues with Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 in G minor, Movement 1, celebrating the 40th anniversary of BHSO. Indulge in the lush, sweeping romantic melodies of Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No. 2, Adagio. Glide through the elegance of Tchaikovsky’s Waltz from Sleeping Beauty, an enchanting piece that brings the magic of the ballet to life. Pearl Yim’s The Mermaid Odyssey, inspired by the love story of a sailor and a mermaid, adds a shimmering, evocative touch.

 

The programme concludes with Camille Saint-Saëns’ Bacchanale from Samson and Delilah, a fiery and colourful orchestral showpiece.

Butterfly Lovers meet Romeo and Juliet

Celebrate Valentine’s Day and Chinese New Year in this intimate musical outing with BHSO where the Butterfly Lovers meet Romeo and Juliet! Experience the passion of Tchaikovsky’s famous Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture, a rare performance of the Butterfly Lovers Concerto performed on the erhu, and many more touching music to stir the heartstrings. And featured is the beautiful Adagio from Rachmaninov’s Symphony No. 3 as well as the world premiere of The Mermaid’s Odyssey by Pearl Yim – a love story of a mermaid and sailor!
