We at BHSO are happy to announce the 2024 edition of our Concerto Competition!

Procedure:

• Each candidate shall submit no more than 1 accompanied audio recording of a complete concerto to info@bhso.org by 00:00, Sat 1 June 2024.
• The recording should be unedited and done in a single seating and will be evaluated by a blind panel (candidate’s name will not be revealed).

Eligibility:

• Candidates must be Singaporean/PRs/Long-term pass holders (e.g Employment/Student pass).
• The concerto submitted should ideally be written for an orchestra instrument or piano. (Other instruments will be considered on a case-by-case basis – please write in to info@bhso.org.)
• Previous winners of this competition are not eligible.

Winner:

Candidates will be shortlisted by the panel based on 

1. The ability to give the most compelling musical performance, and
2. The suitability of the piece for BHSO.

• The Panel reserves the right not to shortlist any candidates, or to shortlist more than one.
• The candidate(s) shortlisted by the panel will be required to perform part or whole of their submitted concerto at an in-person meeting with the Music Director and Concertmaster of BHSO. This meeting will have three goals:

1. To verify that the submitted concerto recording was indeed performed by the candidate(s); hence no accompaniment shall be required at the meeting.
2. To schedule at least 3 rehearsals of the candidate(s) with BHSO (rehearsals are typically on Sunday afternoons 3-6pm) and
3. To confirm the availability of the candidate(s) for performance of the concerto with BHSO and Music Director Leonard Tan on Saturday 28 September 2024, at the SOTA Concert Hall. 

If the meeting is successful, the candidate(s) will be named the winner(s) of the competition; failing which, the panel may choose to shortlist more candidates.

We regret that we are unable to offer any cash remuneration for the winner.
